Select base metals rise on global cues

Copper and nickel prices rose by Rs 10 per kg in wholesale non-ferrous metals market in the national capital today,tracking firming trend in the global market.

Copper and nickel prices rose by Rs 10 per kg in wholesale non-ferrous metals market in the national capital today,tracking firming trend in the global market.

Pick up in demand from consuming industries also supported the recovery in select base metal prices.

Marketmen said,reports of firming trend in entire base metals pack,led by copper at the London Metal Exchange (LME) on the back of strong US housing data mainly buoyed the trading sentiment here.

Meanwhile,copper for three-months delivery at the LME copper rose USD 88.75,or 1.15 per cent to USD 7,833 per tonne,while nickel gained USD 150,or 0.56 per cent to USD 27,150 per tonne. At Shanghai,copper edged higher by 850 yuan,or 1.40 per cent to 61,450 yuan per tonne.

In the national capital,copper wire scrap,copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap were down by Rs 5 each to Rs 378,Rs 397 and Rs 357,while nickel (4×4) gained Rs 10 at Rs 923-1,038 per kg.

Zinc ingot,lead ingot and lead imported were also in better shape and traded Rs 2 each higher at Rs 120,Rs 122 and Rs 124 per kg.
