Supporters of Sada Sarvankar shouted slogans in front of the house of the former Lok Sabha Speaker.

Supporters of a Shiv Sena MLA on Sunday protested outside the house of senior party leader Manohar Joshi at Shivaji Park here, police said.

Supporters of Sada Sarvankar shouted slogans in front of the house of the former Lok Sabha Speaker over speculation that Shiv Sena was planning to field Milind Vaidya from Dadar instead of Sarvankar, sources close to the MLA said.

Vaidya, a former Mayor of Mumbai, is a close associate of Joshi.

At the time of the protest, Sarvankar was at Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray's house, 'Matoshree', to meet the sena patriarch and executive president Uddhav Thackeray.

However, a senior Sena leader said it (the protest) was being blown out of proportion.

Agitated supporters of Sarvankar turned their ire on television camerapersons who were shooting the demonstration. Several cameras were damaged by the supporters who asked them not to shoot.

So far, no case has been registered by the police against the demonstrators.

"Many people meet Balasaheb to put before the leadership the work they have done and how they are deserving candidates," the leader said when asked about Sarvankar's meeting with the Thackerays.

The party's first list of candidates is expected in a day or two. The party functionary said the candidates finalised are being informed on telephone. "The list will be made public by tonight or tomorrow," the functionary said.

The senior leader said there was resentment against Joshi after he took a soft stand on MNS president Raj Thackeray during a "meet-the-press" programme in the city last week.

political successionBy: K.Lakshmi Narasimhan | 20-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward It is not surprising that the Sena leader has chosen one of his trusted aides to contest as a candidate of shiv sena in the general elections. Now it has become important for all the leaders of political parties to have their own kith and kin to take over the reins from them to see that the family and friends propsper politically and economically like them in future. This tradition is being followed from Nehru era, irrespective of good, public serving people available in all respects to take over the reins from the dynasty or coterie. The party cadres should not try to protest or go against their leaders, as they have committed the mistake of selecting and electing such type of leaders who care only for the family and their friends. This trend of selection of political successors by the so called leader is an exclusive case, it is prevailing in almost all the states with some exceptions. K.l.NarasimhanChennai
When the right persons defer to stay away.....By: Kalidas M | 20-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Nothing much here to comment on, I am afraid. I did not get anything new out of this post. I hope Mr Narsimhan has some relevant but yet not brought up points judging from the direction he seems to have taken in the beginning. The point of view he is mentioning here is the sad TRUTH for all of India. When the ones who should truly be in the field and directing the masses, choose to remain hidden in their holes, the whole lot of the society is bound to suffer. That is why Congress is having a merry time. Ditto for all others.
