Sena,MNS to lock horns in Mumbai Varsity polls today

It is for the first time that the Sena is fighting under their youth leader Aditya,the grandson of Sena Chief Bal Thackeray.

The student wings of Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena will lock horns in the battleground of Mumbai University senate polls,to be held here today.

Aditya was in news for demanding removal of Rohington Mistry’s book ‘Such A Long Journey’ from the University syllabus for containing some unacceptable remarks about Sena and Marathi people.

The student unions of both these parties – Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena (BVS) of Shiv Sena and the – Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS) of MNS would fight for 10 seats in the senate.

The elections that are held every five years will take place in over 40 centres with 46,600 voters polling. Of the 10,five seats are from the general category and five are reserved for ladies,OBCs,SCs,STs and Nomadic Tribe respectively.

While the BVS is contesting all the 10 seats,the MNVS is contesting five seats.

MNVS president,Aditya Shirodkar has released a letter on the works by the party in areas like anti-ragging law,launching a Marathi website and fighting against encroachment at the campus.

The BVS manifesto assures of education and examination reforms,accountability for every single penny of fee structure and donation taken by the college.

The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad of BJP,National Students Union of India of Congress,Bombay Graduate Forum and Swabhiman are also contesting the polls.
