Joint Municipal Commissioner Amrut Sawant gheraoed for nearly three hours
Shiv Sena leaders and workers on Tuesday created ruckus at the PCMC headquarters in Pimpri, demanding a probe into what they termed as "Ecoman machine" scam. For nearly three hours, they gheraoed PCMC Joint Municipal Commissioner Amrut Sawant after suddenly storming into his cabin in the afternoon. Similar scenes were witnessed at PMC headquarters on Monday, when members of political parties stormed into the cabin of Additional Municipal Commissioner Naresh Zurmure protesting against his alleged derogatory remarks on the use of water by citizens.
It was only after Sawant directed his officials to submit a report on the matter by Wednesday, the Sainiks relented and called off their stir. "Sena has alleged that an Ecoman machine has gone missing from a ward where it was installed and another has remained unused. I have asked officials to probe the matter and submit a report. Based on the report, we will initiate appropriate action," said Sawant.
Shiv Sena leader Sarang Kamtekar alleged the administration was trying to protect its officials. "They told us that the machines have been shifted. But as per our findings, the machines were not intact. The administration was asking for ten days to submit the report. However, we opposed it as it would lead to destruction of evidence. There has clearly been some bungling and we want immediate investigation so that the truth comes out," he said.
In a letter to Municipal Commissioner Dr Shrikar Pardeshi on Monday, Sena had alleged that a machine 'Ecoman' (used for converting food-waste to compost) had gone missing from the ward of former mayor Yogesh Behl. The Sena also alleged that another machine has been left to rust in yet another former mayor Mangala Kadam's ward. Both the machines were worth Rs Rs 20 lakh.
