Shiv Sena MLAs Chandrakant Mokate and Mahadev Babar along with other party members staged a protest against Bank of Maharashtra (BoM) on Tuesday for not putting up Chhatrapati Shivajis painting at the banks head office at Lok Mangal in Shivajinagar.
While Sena members presented Shivajis painting to the bank chairman and managing director Allen Pereira with a request of putting it up at the banks entrance, general manager of the Bank Madhav Joshi gave a written assurance that an oil painting of Shivaji would be put up in the office by January 26.
We had sent a memorandum to the banks management on December 16,2009 requesting them to put up Shivaji’s painting and to conduct all work of the bank’s branches in the state in Marathi. We staged the protest as the bank management failed to keep their word of putting up Shivaji’s photo by January 1, Mokate said.
Following the protests, the bank’s management agreed to put up Shivaji’s painting in all 160 branches in the state by January 26 and conduct all bank work in Marathi. We have directed our Mumbai office to buy an oil painting of Shivaji from the government printing press and frame it. We are expecting the framed painting within 10 days and will put up the painting by January 26, Joshi said.
