Sena to launch stir if power tariff hike not withdrawn
Shiv Sena warned of a 'no bill payment' if power tariff hike by Reliance Energy and other power companies was not withdrawn.
Shiv Sena on Monday warned of a “no bill payment” if power tariff hike by Reliance Energy and other power companies was not withdrawn.
“The power tariff hike should be cancelled before the expiry of the deadline (stipulated by the government to prepare a report on the hike),” Sena Executive president Uddhav Thackeray said in Mumbai.
“We dare you to disconnect our power supply,” he said, addressing a ‘mahamorcha’ organised by the Sena outside the MHADA office in suburban Bandra to demand housing for sons of the soil.
Uddhav also asked Shiv Sena workers to visit places where work under Slum Rehabilitation Scheme (SRA) projects was on and to take the builder to task in case of irregularities.
The Sena leader alleged that the builder lobby had made inroads into MHADA housing schemes.
Uddhav said: “when our government comes to power,we will ensure that nothing comes in the way of development of ‘koliwada’ (fishermen colony). “The fishermen folk are the original inhabitants of the island city and have not come from Bihar or Bangladesh,” he said.
Uddhav also criticised NCP chief Sharad Pawar for suggesting former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi’s name to the Bandra-Worli sealink.
The sealink should have been completed in 2004 but was delayed,Uddhav said. The sealink was inaugurated on June 30. “The sealink till Nariman Point was to have been inaugurated this year,” Uddhav claimed.
On June 24,Shiv Sena workers torched three trucks and disrupted traffic in suburbs, protesting against power tariff hike. Altogether Shiv Sainiks, including senior party leaders Subhash Desai and Gajanan Kirtikar, were arrested for arson and traffic disruption.
Ten cases were registered in different police stations after hundreds of Sainiks, including senior leaders, staged demonstrations at various places across the city against power tariff hike by Reliance Energy and other power companies.
