‘Sender of terror mails might have links with police’

The hoax calls and terror mails had been sent to Jamnagar,Porbandar,Amreli,Ankleshwar,Ambaji Temple,Bhadra Mandir in Ahmedabad and Dwarka Temple. Most of the terror mails were in the name of MS University professors—Seema Bakshi,J R Mohite and DV Baloni— after which a circular was sent to all MSU departments to aid investigations. It was then that the Special Operations Group (SOG) chanced upon the expertise of Devyani,also the wife of an Air Force officer,K M Polra. A former SOG inspector,who had been handling the investigations at that time,said: “MSU syndicate member Mukesh Pandya,who is Kashyap’s family friend,introduced us to her and she aided the investigations by analysing the handwriting in the messages.”

Kashyap said,”The letter specimen given to me indicated that the terror mails were sent by somebody very close to the police department and that the person was lying and he/she didn’t mean anything that was written.”

She said that during Navratri,the cops were worried that terror mails might create more panic. However,working on leads,the police collected minute details such as the shops that had sold the envelopes,the stamp of the area,i.e. Raopura,where the letters had been posted,and finding out people in whose names the letters had been mailed.

Polra said they narrowed down on the area,where the sender/writer lived,supposedly in a crowded place in the vicinity of a red light area. “We followed her advice and tightened security in such areas. This might have alarmed the sender,as the nuisance thereafter stopped,” he said.

Meanwhile,Sub-Inspector H M Alsika of SOG Vadodara said,”The police got the list of advices from Kashyap. Each point was considered seriously. We are still keeping a tab on that; the culprit has not been caught,but the nuisance has definitely stopped.” The police also contacted several psychotherapists to get an insight into the man’s personality.
