Senior citizen found murdered in Borivali flat

Desai was frequently visited by a man named Satya,the son of a former domestic help who he helped by way of paying for his primary education. The police have detained Satya for questioning.

Senior police inspector Bhagwan Chate from the Borivali police station said,“The incident occurred in Desai’s flat located on the second floor of the Krishna Nagar building on Chandavarkar road in Borivali west. Initial inquiries have revealed that Desai,who is married and has a son and a daughter,used to stay alone while his wife,Chaya,and son Anand stay in Shimpoli. Desai was not on good terms with them. His daughter,Sonica,stays with her husband in Andheri.”

On Monday morning Desai’s neighbours found a foul stench emanating from his house and called the police control room after which a team was dispatched to the spot.

“After breaking the door open,the police found Desai’s body on the floor. He had injuries on his head caused by a blunt object and his throat also seemed to have been slit with a sharp weapon. However,we did not recover any murder weapon from the place,” said Chate.

When the police were checking the flat for clues,Satya came to visit the house as was his habit. When he got to know of the murder,he went to Shimpoli to inform Desai’s wife and son.

Desai’s neighbours said he was last seen talking to other residents of the building on Saturday evening. “Based on the level of decomposition of the body,we suspect Desai might have been killed sometime after Saturday evening. We have sent the body to Bhagwati Hospital for a post-mortem examination and have registered a case of murder,” added Chate.
