Senior citizen’s murder: 10 arrested

The Pune rural police have arrested a gang of 10 dacoits involved in the brutal murder of 65-year-old Anjanabai Vitthal Shelar at Pabal on July 18.

The Pune rural police have arrested a gang of 10 dacoits involved in the brutal murder of 65-year-old Anjanabai Vitthal Shelar at Pabal on July 18.

The suspects broke into Anjanabai’s house around 1 am,who also attacked her son,Mangesh Shelar (27),with a wooden baton.

The desperadoes then assaulted Anjanabai,causing her death on the spot. Mangesh had received major injuries. The gang fled the spot after stealing five tolas of gold and Rs 25,000.

Residents of Pabal had then ransacked the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) office as the murder took place during the load- shedding hours.

Local politicians including MP Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil and Finance Minister Dilip Walse-Patil visited Pabal and demanded arrest of the assailants.

The Superintendent of Pune rural police Ravindra Kadam formed a special squad led by deputy superintendent Meghasham Malegaokar and inspector Bhausaheb Andhalkar of local crime branch to investigate the case.

Acting on a tip-off,the police team nabbed one Rajesh Kale (24) of Nikhalje Vasti,Jategaon in Shirur.

During interrogation,police found the mobile phone of Mangesh Shelar.

Following the leads from Kale’s interrogation,the police team arrested his nine accomplices from Mukhai in Shirur taluka and Kamargaon in Ahmednagar district on Tuesday.
