West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee working president Pradip Bhattacharya and PCC leader Kanak Debnath sustained multiple injuries when their vehicle collided with a truck near Burdwan town on Tuesday morning.
The leaders, Bhattacharya’s security officer and driver, were rushed to the Burdwan Medical College & Hospital, and later referred to Kolkata for further treatment.
They were returning to Kolkata from Sainthia after attending a campaign for municipal elections. Police said their SUV was approaching at a high speed along the NH-2 towards Burdwan town, when it collided with the truck around 11.45 am.
Police said the truck has been seized, but the driver is absconding.
Since both leaders sustained head injuries, they had to undergo a brain scan at the BMCH.
