Five policemen, including two station officers, were injured when attacked by a mob at Bichand village under Jaithara police circle in Etah on Tuesday evening. The police team had gone to settle a dispute between two groups of villagers who engaged in brick batting and firing.
The injured persons are Station Officer of Jaithara police station Indresh Bhadouria, Station Officer of Raja Ka Rampur police station SN Yadav and constables Ram Tej Yadav, Somit Mishra and Ram Pal Yadav.
Bhadouria, who suffered serious injuries on the head, was referred to Agra. Others were discharged after medical aid.
Heavy police team have been deployed in Bichand village and raids are being carried out to trace the assailants. Etah Circle Officer Shamsher Singh said: "All males of the village have gone underground."
The police said two FIRs were lodged in yesterday's incident, one by the Station Officer of Jasarathpur police station, naming 28 persons belonging to Bichand and nearby villages, and the other by one Salig Ram, naming 27 villagers.
According to the police, on Tuesday afternoon, a team of district administration went to Bichand to acquire land for construction of a bylane. Some villagers objected as part of their fields fell in the required land. However, another group favoured construction of the bylane. This led to an argument, and soon the two groups were involved in brick batting.
Jaithara police rushed to the place, but came under attack. More force from nearby police stations was sent, which controlled the situation.
