Bhadouria, who suffered serious injuries on the head, was referred to Agra. Others were discharged after medical aid.

Heavy police team have been deployed in Bichand village and raids are being carried out to trace the assailants. Etah Circle Officer Shamsher Singh said: "All males of the village have gone underground."

The police said two FIRs were lodged in yesterday's incident, one by the Station Officer of Jasarathpur police station, naming 28 persons belonging to Bichand and nearby villages, and the other by one Salig Ram, naming 27 villagers.

According to the police, on Tuesday afternoon, a team of district administration went to Bichand to acquire land for construction of a bylane. Some villagers objected as part of their fields fell in the required land. However, another group favoured construction of the bylane. This led to an argument, and soon the two groups were involved in brick batting.

Jaithara police rushed to the place, but came under attack. More force from nearby police stations was sent, which controlled the situation.
