Seven fishermen of Dandi village in Olpad taluka of Surat have begun an independent operation to look for the four fishermen who had gone missing in the sea on Tuesday,a few hours before the cyclone Phyan had arrived. Villagers in Dandi are in a state of shock ever since the news of Soma Khalasi,Rajesh Khalasi, and two brothers Ramesh and Nitin Khalasi, going missing reached them.
The village sarpanch,Dhirubhai Khalasi, has been in touch with the Coast Guard and other marine officials involved in the search for Hariom Prasad the boat in which all the four fishermen were travelling.
Seven fishermen of the village: Champak Khalasi,Amrat Khalasi,Rajesh Khalasi,Manilal Khalasi,Dilip Thakor,Mayur Khalasi and Rajesh Patel have started a search operation on their own. They have been supported by the entire village that has donated a boat, fuel, food, cellphones and drinking water.
The men embarked on their journey on Saturday afternoon and will venture into the coastal areas from Dahej in Bharuch to Navsari. We are attached to the four missing fishermen,so we have decided to help the government machinery with our own search operation. The Hariom Prasad is made of fibre and we believe it is still afloat, said the sarpanch.
