Seven test positive at world kabaddi,NADA warns more cases possible

Seven players participating in the ongoing kabaddi World Cup have tested positive for banned substance nandrolone.

Seven players participating in the ongoing kabaddi World Cup have tested positive for banned substance nandrolone. Of those in National Anti-Doping Agency’s (NADA) dope net,two are from Australia,one each from Germany,Canada,the US,Spain and Argentina.

Confirming this development NADA director-general Rahul Bhatnagar said that the dope cheats have been provisionally suspended and withdrawn from the championship. NADA has deployed three teams consisting of four members at different venues to collect the urine samples of players participating in the meet which will see the winning team pocket Rs 2 crore and runners-up Rs 1 crore.

Last month,in a NADA swoop at India’s pre-championship camps,20 of the 50 urine samples collected tested positive. The banned substances found was stanozolol,methendinone,trenbolone,Drostanolone,nandrolone and phentermine.

Bhatnagar said that NADA had warned the organisers about the rampant use of banned substance in the wake of the series of positive cases. “I had warned the organisers to establish the credentials and bonafides of the visiting teams and also seek dope-free certificates from each player of the visiting teams before they are allowed to compete,” he said. “The way things are happening,the percentage could be anywhere in the range of 30 to 40,” he added.

Third win for USA

Meanwhile,USA on Monday scored their third consecutive win in the competition,crushing Argentina 71-17 while Pakistan edged out Italy 50-37. Spain also came out 70-26 winner against Sri Lanka.

USA had a 35-8 lead at half time. Stopper Jassin Aezro scored nine points while Baljinder Billa scored seven. Argentina raider Jurie Mayor scored nine points while Leonardo scored five. For Pakistan,raider Abdoullah Lala scored 10 points while Amir Ismael Jatt scored eight points. Stopper Hamid Ismael Jatt scored four points.
