Violent incidents involving the police and activists of the Students Federation of India (SFI) were reported from several parts of Kerala for the second day on Tuesday as a sequel to the CPM student outfits agitation against Chief Minister Oommen Chandys directive to admit a student in a state-run engineering college, flouting norms.
The police had fired in air four rounds on Monday to disperse SFI activists who had laid a siege to Government Engineering College,Kozhikode, where Nirmal Madhav was admitted in fifth semester, after skipping third and fourth semesters. The police action had triggered violent protest in the state with the CPM demanding judicial probe into the firing without meeting the mandatory formalities.
The proceedings in the Assembly were disrupted on Tuesday as the Opposition wanted disciplinary action against the police. Chandy said he was solely responsible for admitting Madhav as a fifth semester student.
