SGF merges with Congress

  • The Save Goa Front (SGF), a regional party headed by former Congress MLA Churchill Alemao, which has two MLAs in the House, formally merged with the Congress party on Wednesday. With this, the Congress party’s now has 18 MLAs in the 40-member Assembly.

    The SGF is already a part of the Digambar Kamat Government with Alemao holding the PWD ministry. Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco is the other SGF MLA.

    “Alemao was always a Congressman... He was away from the party over some differences. We are happy that he is back,” Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat said.

    Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Fransisco Sardinha, who was defeated in the Assembly elections by Lourenco, was also present at the function.
