Shah, Bavisetti’s powercharged display hand Accurate Aces MTL title

The pair of Kedar Shah and Soujanya Bavisetti seemed a possessed duo as the Maharashtra Tennis League final reached a rather interesting juncture.

The Accurate Aces led by two games going into the mixed doubles rubber, and the Dazzling Deuces who had a history of coming back from hopeless positions seemed to lick their lips, relishing the predicament they found themselves in.

The pair of Shah and Bavisetti who had not won a single tie through the tournament, turned it on when it mattered. Up against Divij Sharan and Treta Bhattacharya, the Accurate Aces duo did not give the Dazzling Deuces a chance to catch their breath. Bavisetti's serve which had been patchy through the tournament, was right on target and so was her baseline play as she regularly stretched Bhattacharya along the baseline.

Shah's poaching instincts at the net seemed to have sharpened overnight as the Accurate Aces thrashed the Dazzling Deuces 7-0 to lay their hands on the inaugural edition of the MTL.

Earlier in the day, Rishika Sunkara of the Accurate Aces exacted a hard-fought win over Ankita Raina in the first tie of the evening. The 7-5 scoreline in favour of Sunkara came at the end of a hard-fought match where both players did not give an inch.

Sunkara's superior ground strokes proved to be the difference in the end as she gave the Aces their first win of the final tie.

Mohit Mayur who took the court for the Dazzling Deuces in the singles tie against Vishnu Vardhan. Mayur began in an emphatic fashion as he hammered a couple of aces in his first service game and then went one better as he broke the experienced Vardhan in the very next game.

Mayur's energy which did not seem to drop through the game was too much for Vardhan (carrying a slight knee injury) to handle as Mayur won 7-5 in 50 minutes.
