  • A witness has reportedly identified Shahbaz Hussain as being present in the cyber cafe at Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh the day terror e-mails were sent from there after the May 13 Jaipur serial blasts.

Revealing this here today, the Rajasthan police said Hussain, who is the prime accused in the blasts, sent the e-mails to media offices himself under the name of Indian Mujahideen. The mails contained images of bicycles carrying the bombs.

Rajasthan Additional DGP A K Jain, who is part of the Special Investigative Team probing the terror strikes, said: “A witness identified Hussain in the Central Jail in Jaipur late on Wednesday night and confirmed that he was present in the cyber cafe on May 14. We had earlier pinpointed this cyber cafe as the place from where the e-mails had been sent... The executive magistrate, who supervised the identification parade, sent his report on Thursday, clinching the evidence against Hussain.”

Senior police officers said Hussain and 10 others resembling him were part of the identification parade. The identity of the witness is not being revealed for security reasons.

Jain said the police were trying to collect corroborative evidence against Hussain linking him to the Jaipur serial blasts. The May 14 e-mails claimed that the Indian Mujahideen was responsible for the Jaipur blasts and threatened more strikes across India.

Two days ago the Rajasthan police had confirmed that the May 14 e-mails were drafted by Abu Bashir Mufti, the prime accused in the Ahmedabad blasts of July 26, and Mohammad Altaf Subhan, who allegedly designed the integrated circuits used in the bombs recovered from Surat.
