Husain, a rap musician and the president of his mother’s company, The Shahnaz Husain Group, was found lying at the base of the Maqbool Husain Apartment in Patna on Sunday evening. Police said that he was rushed to a private hospital with grievous injuries where he battled for life and died on Monday morning.
So far, police have refrained from stating whether it was a suicide or murder or an accidental death. No suicide note has been recovered nor has the victim’s dying statement been recorded. “The matter is being investigated. Post mortem report about the cause of death is also awaited. We cannot say anything concrete at this juncture”, Senior SP, Patna, Kundan Krishnan said.
Krishnan added that preliminary investigations have revealed that Husain’s father and mother-in-laws were present in the apartment when he fell from the balcony. “He asked for tea from his father-in-law and went towards the balcony. Later, he was found lying at the bottom of the apartment”, Krishnan said. His wife Rabia and daughter Husna (5) had gone to Dhanbad to visit their maternal uncle. Father-in-law Mehfooz Hussain is a Patna High Court lawyer. Family sources said that Husain was a regular visitor to Patna at his in-laws place.
Police have lodged an FIR and recorded the statements of his in-laws, guards and other residents of the apartment. However, police sources have raised questions over the mental condition of Husain and said that that it had come to their notice that he was depressed and was undergoing treatment in Delhi.
Talking to The Indian Express in a telephonic conversation from Delhi, PR Manager of the company Sidhharth Sen Gupta refuted the charges. “I have been working with him for the past six years. He was absolutely normal,” he said. Discarding speculations about Hussain’s estranged relation with his wife, he said that for the past one month they were staying together in Patna.
Sen Gupta added that they had learnt about the tragic incident at 6:30 pm on Sunday. “He was rushed to hospital and doctors from Patna and Delhi coordinated to save his life, but failed. It is a big loss for us,” he said, adding that Shahnaz Husain was unwell and had been advised bed rest by doctors. Hence, she was unable to rush to Patna.
