Sham Mall murder: Case adjourned again

After the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had moved an application to the lower court asking to close the infamous murder case of the Sham Mall owner, Amarjit Khurrana, the court has again adjourned the case to March 18 for the complainants to file a protest petition in the court.

According to the court authorities, the summons for the complainant, which is the family of the deceased in this case, were dispatched well in time. However, the family of Amarjit Khurrana has not received any summons.

"We had been waiting for the notice from the court to reply regarding the closure report submitted by the CBI. However, we have not received any notice. We came to know about the media reports through the media itself," said Gagandeep Khurrana, Amarjit's son.

Public Prosecutor of CBI, Tarun Goel said, "Fresh summons will be sent to the complainants in the case".

When asked about what steps will be taken if the complainants do not report to the court in the next hearing, he said, "The court will decide what is to be done in that case".

The closure report was submitted by the CBI on November 27. It was after investigating the case for nearly two years that the CBI submitted a closure report, stating in it that, "After making strenuous efforts by the CBI, no clue relating to murder of Amarjeet Singh has emerged. In view of the above facts (which have been stated in the report), it is prayed that the closure report may kindly be accepted and the case be allowed to be closed. The documents collected during the course of investigation may be ordered to be returned to concerned authorities/vpersons".

Later, a letter was also sent to the Chandigarh Police department pointing out the loopholes in the investigation of the case by the UT Police.
