Sharad Yadav warns against 'forcible' land acquisition

Janata Dal (U) president Sharad Yadav warned that his party will not allow setting up of industries on farm land at any cost, and will launch agitation against any "forcible" land acquisition.

"We will not allow use of agriculture land for setting up industries and we warn the Madhya Pradesh government that if it tried to forcibly acquire farmers' land, then we will camp in the area to protest this injustice," Yadav said addressing farmers of Barhi, Bujbuja and Dokaria near Katni.

Yadav had come here in support of farmers' protesting land acquisition for the proposed 1,980 MW capacity Welspun Thermal Power Plant.

The JD-U president alleged that Madhya Pradesh's people's representatives and government were doing injustice to the people and capitalists were running the administration "the way they wanted".

Without naming any company, he said a large group here plans to set up a power plant on 1,400 acres of land by acquiring it forcibly.

He advised the government to deal with the issue of land acquisition in an amicable manner and not use any force to acquire it.

Earlier, addressing a local business delegation, Yadav said the decision to permit FDI in retail is not in the interest of small traders and therefore he opposes it.
