Shaurya Pednekar put up an outstanding display to take himself to the cusp of a triple crown in the GSC-MSDTTA 3-star ranking table-tennis tournament hosted by the Goregaon Sports Club on Tuesday.
Ashlesha Trehan too will be in line for three titles after she lived up to her top billing in all three categories that she is participating in. Pednekar's amazing run though has been even more special, considering the big names that he's hacked to size along the way. He beat seeded players like second-seeded Rhys Albuquerque in the semifinals to make the title round in the youth boys' category, where he now faces top-seeded Ravindra Kotiyan. Pednekar will face the same opponent in the under-15 finals too after he knocked out No.2 Shaun Rebello in the semifinals. The sub-junior final, meanwhile, will pit him against arch-rival Shah. Favourite Trehan, meanwhile, faces Dyuti Patki in two of the singles' finals—junior and sub-junior—that she's progressed into. Fighting for the women's crown against her will be Joanne D'Souza. International Sanil Shetty hardly facing any hiccups on his way to taking his appointed place in the men's singles final against second seeded Noel Pinto.
