On her brother’s scale of operations, what Haseena Parkar is alleged to have swindled is small change.
The sister of India’s most wanted man, Dawood Ibrahim, is accused of cheating a builder of Rs 30 lakh in a slum rehabilitation project in Antop Hill. Haseena Appa, as she is known, is also booked for criminal intimidation and forgery. But she says, in an exclusive interview, that she has been framed.
Parkar told The Indian Express: “My name has been unnecessarily dragged because of my relation to Dawood. If I really had any clout with anybody, I would have had a flat in every newly constructed building in the city. And for your information, recently a Bandra builder tried to dupe me by peddling the same flat that I had purchased. Doesn’t that show how much people care who I am?”
But isn’t she in touch with Dawood? “Yes, since he is my brother, we do talk occasionally, mostly on Eid and Shab-e-Baraat.”
When asked about the allegations that she extorts money and settles disputes like her brother, she says: “If that was the case, you would have seen a long queue of people outside my house. My house is opposite the police station. Any illegal activity can be monitored. If they want, my phones can be tapped. I am a housewife, looking after my two daughters and a son. These things are just canards spread about me because the media has nothing else to do.”
