She had heard the news of an accident on Rajpath-Janpath crossing involving IAF employees and seen the numberplate of her husbands Maruti Omni van being flashed during the TV news bulletin. She repeatedly requested all Air Force employees present at the hospital to give her an update on her husbands health.
Woh theek hain na? Doctors ne abhi kuch kaha toh nahi hai? (Is he fine? Did the doctors say anything?), she asked.

In another part of the hospital,SS Chakrwartis wife,Minakshi,lay on a stretcher. She had accompanied her husband on the trip. Chakrawarti died in the accident.
She has also received head injuries. She still does not know about her husbands death, said her cousin Sandhya Dass.
