Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today voiced confidence that around 1,500 unauthorised colonies will be regularised within the next few months, paving the way for further planned development in the capital.
Regularisation of such colonies will also put an end to fears of demolition among the citizens, she said.
Addressing a gathering at the state-level Republic Day function here, she also said her government has been providing due attention to providing basic civic amenities in most of the unauthorised colonies.
She also said the dream of slum-dwellers for permanent houses is going to be realised soon as the city government has initiated action for allotment of 15,000 low-cost flats. This will go a long way in making Delhi a slum-free capital city. The Delhi Cabinet yesterday approved a proposal for provision of civic facilities in unauthorised colonies that have come up on government land, subject to future decisions of the Delhi High Court. It said the issue is being referred to the Lieutenant Governor and the Centre for consideration.
Dikshit had said this is necessary to ensure that insanitary conditions are not created in these colonies.
Meanwhile, the MCD today dubbed the Delhi governments proposed move on provision of basic civic services in unauthorised colonies was mere politics.
Yogendra Chandolia,Chairman of MCD Standing Committee, said the Municipal Corporation of Delhi had sent five proposals regarding provision of basic civic services in these colonies since 2007.
Delhi government paid no heed to these proposals and kept sitting on them. Now,when MCD has generated its new head of accounts for provision of budget in the non-plan head for providing civic services by its own to the unauthorised colonies,it has perturbed the Congress government in Delhi, resulting in such statements, he claimed.
