Sheila wants Aadhaar numbers on univ degrees, birth papers

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has suggested that Aadhaar numbers should be included on birth certificates and university degrees. The proposal came as Dikshit announced the addition of all nine centrally-sponsored schemes, relevant to the Capital, to Aadhaar-enabled direct cash transfer scheme on Thursday. The schemes will be added by April this year.

Addressing a workshop on Aadhaar-enabled direct cash transfer, Dikshit said Delhi would achieve 95 per cent Aadhaar enrolment target by next month.

"On launch of Aadhaar-enabled direct cash transfer on January 1, Delhi has already implemented four of the nine centrally-sponsored schemes in two districts — Northwest and Northeast," she said.

Dikshit said the departments concerned will now start working on including Aadhaar numbers on university degrees and birth certificates.

"An Aadhaar number is unique to an individual and remains valid for life. It helps in accessing services, and is a revolutionary method to overcome bogus beneficiaries and duplication," she said.
