A year after he was hit by a stray bullet from a terrorists gun at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, mongrel Sheru celebrated his rebirth with cakes, candles and confetti. On the first anniversary of 26/11 Sheru met his saviour, photographer Shripad Ranade,at a grand birthday party at the Bombay Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA) hospital grounds. The animal is being kept there at present. Sheru was surrounded by nearly 50 of hospital staff, including doctors and ward boys, who helped it recuperate. It was a miracle that Sheru survived the terror attack last year. A bullet had pierced him under the shoulder blade, made a six-inch hole in the flesh and got out from the other side. He had lost a lot of blood before admission. We believe he was reborn that day and well always celebrate this day as his birthday, said Lt Col (retd) Dr J C Khanna, secretary,SPCA. Khanna said that while Sheru has fully recovered today, his trauma was evident when a crowd gathered around him. At first he was excited but when people assembled and the candles were lit,he got unnerved. Later,we took Sheru for a long and leisurely walk to pacify him, Khanna said.
