  • The 'Nayee Padosan', who went missing in action, is suddenly most 'Wanted'

The debut was grand and when everyone was expecting Mahek Chahal to follow it up with more, she suddenly went missing in action. "Actually it did seem like I was taking a break, but I wasn't. It's just that my films took so long to see the light of day," cheers the lady looking all svelte and sexy this Monday morning. In town to select budding students from Inter National Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) for the next season of Lakme Fashion Week, Mahek was accompanied by star stylist Ashley Rebello. Interestingly, Rebello has styled Chahal for the two back-to-back releases she's had this month. "While in 'Wanted' the look is rather boyish, in 'Main Aur Mrs Khanna' I play someone who idolises Julia Roberts and hence the clothes are glamourous and sometimes very over the top," explained Mahek who looked breezy chic in her Greco-Roman outfit this Monday. Quiz her on her sense of style and the actor, who grew up in Norway, spells out: "I can be both basic and very glamourous, it depends on my mood. At times, I like to dress in clothes that will make heads turn and sometimes I will loaf around in just pyjamas and a T-shirt."

When it comes to work, Mahek who graduated from a modelling career to acting says she's been a slow and steady riser. "There are many shortcuts to climb the success ladder but I am not one to fall for it. Sometimes in life you have to go back a few steps to be able to walk ahead," she speaks her mind. In fact doing the latter comes easy to Chahal who credits her 'Sardarni' genes for the same. For those unaware, Chahal traces her roots back to Gurdaspur. "I have always spoken my mind and I have a clear conscience. Those unfortunately are the worst traits for being a successful star in Bollywood," the actor impresses with her honesty. No wonder then she didn't think twice before walking out of producer Vashu Bhagnani's film a while ago. "I was uncomfortable with the whole set-up. My lines were chopped mercilessly and I was asked to wear the same clothes for five different scenes. I took a call and chose to walk out, again something Bollywood is unfamiliar with," explains Mahek whose career doesn't seem to be affected by her determination to do the right thing, always. "I am set to sign two films soon and one is a Sohail Khan production," she lists out. Also she's keen to do a Punjabi film once again. "I debuted on the Punjabi scene with Harbhajan Mann's Dil Apna Punjabi. I would be love to be do more films like that. I owe it to my land," Mahek says before signing off.

    ... contd.
