Shettar gets BJP green signal to dissolve K’taka House if needed

Amid speculation that few more ministers were likely to quit the government in Karnataka before assembly polls are announced, the BJP brass is learnt to have given a free hand to Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to dissolve the assembly before the polls.

"The leadership will not restrain him if he decides to dissolve the assembly and go to polls as the caretaker chief minister. This is one of the options Shettar has already discussed with the leadership," confided a BJP source.

Sources, in fact, claimed that the leadership's green signal meant Shettar "may" dissolve the assembly on the basis of his own calculations.

Though the onus was now on Shettar to take a final call, pressure is mounting on him with ministers resigning from his cabinet. On Thursday ministers CP Yogeshwar and Narasimha Nayak sent their resignations to Shettar. They are rumoured to be joining the Congress soon. Speculation was rife that more ministers may follow suit and then join the Congress or the JD(S).

BJP leaders here feel this will create an impression that the party was rudderless in the state and it will be better to get these events downplayed by dissolving the assembly. Shettar is learnt to be calling a meeting of the Cabinet soon before taking a final call to dissolve the assembly.
