Two days after a face-off over the shifting of Mohalis solid waste and garbage dumping ground from the Industrial Focal Point in Phase VIII-B to the Industrial Area in Phase I,the officials of Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) and the Municipal Council (MC) met on Friday to resolve their differences. GMADA Chief Administrator (CA) Vivek Partap Singh called on MC Executive Officer (EO) Amana Kumar Goel, president Rajinder Singh Rana and senior vice-president Harman Preet Singh Prince,to amicably discuss the issues. The GMADA CA assured not to go against the decision of the civic body, said Prince, while adding that the development authority has sought the civic bodys suggestions for an alternative site. Prince said the development authority also made an offer to exchange the MC land in Industrial Area Phase I,with another plot of GMADA. The civic body, however, turned down the offer. It was only later that the MC authorities accompanied the GMADA field officials while inspecting a site near Dara Studio in Phase VI. Even as we conveyed to the GMADA authorities that we have no objections with the Phase VI site,we refused to give it in writing as desired by them, said Prince, while lauding GMADAs effort to amicably resolve the issue. Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister,Darbara Singh Guru, meanwhile, has called for a special meeting on Monday to discuss the issue with the secretaries to the local government,Housing and Urban Development,GMADA CA,MC Executive Officer, president, senior vice-president and municipal councillors. It was on Wednesday that the civic body had refused to comply with the CMs order asking the development authority to temporarily shift the dumping ground to MCs cattle land.
