A crew member was killed and six were reported missing after a tug,Logus Searcher,capsized south of Gujarats Pipavav coast in the Gulf of Cambay on Saturday.
Fishing trawler Al Akbari,which was in the vicinity,rescued the remaining 25 crew members,all Indians,sources said,adding the Coast Guard are searching for the missing men. We were busy drilling and suddenly the vessel started sinking… It all happened in five minutes and we had no time to think about anything, Suresh Jogi,Logus Searchers chief engineer,told The Sunday Express.
The vessel was registered in Panama,but there was no clarity on who had hired it. Coast Guard said it was hired by Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation,but the companys Chairman,A K Joti,denied it.
ONGC also denied it had hired the vessel. ONGC has nothing to do with it. We are only offering all assistance for rescue operations, said a senior ONGC official from Mumbai.
The deceased has been identified as Ravi Olly,21. Those missing are Meyal Kumar,54,Subhas Kumar,28,Arol Susai,24,S Prasad,34,and Nadal Velkumar,28.
