  • Exuding confidence that the Marathi voters who favoured Congress-NCP combine in Mumbai during Lok Sabha polls would support Shiv Sena-BJP alliance during the assembly elections, Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray said on Wednesday that his party would regain trust of Mumbaikars.

"The Marathi manoos is grieving the division of votes and I am getting reactions from voters who voted for others that they have committed mistake," Uddhav said, without naming MNS, led by estranged cousin Raj Thackeray.

MNS played spoilsport for the saffron alliance in the general elections leading to Congress-NCP winning all the six seats in Mumbai.

"However, the Sena performed well in rural areas. I thank farmers for reposing trust in us," Uddhav said.

"It is surprising that despite 26/11 terror attacks, blasts and flooding in the city, Mumbai voters still preferred Congress," Uddhav, who was flanked by all the 11 newly-elected Sena MPs, told reporters at Sena Bhawan in central Mumbai.

The Sena's tally in 2004 general election was 12.

Asked about the division of Marathi votes which resulted in defeat of Sena-BJP candidates, Uddhav in an apparent reference to Raj said, "The Sena did not use Marathi manoos for its vested interest."

Replying to a query, Uddhav said, "We did not take people of Mumbai for granted. In fact, the Sena-BJP alliance which controls the Municipal Corporation here, has undertaken various development projects. During the Sena-BJP rule in the state between 1995 and 1999, various projects were implemented in Mumbai."

UPA uncontested tryumph in MumbaiBy: T.P. Viswanathan | 23-May-2009 Reply | Forward Mumbai congress has funds to fight another three general elections (if not more). Raghavan Sarathi and his cronies have amassed enought by looting a co-op. Bank in Mumbai. Ekanath Thakur of Saraswat Bank had enough masala to embarass city congess, but he chose not to. What reason?? Criminal cases are penidng against Sarathi, his colleage Udayar, his CEO Mr. Sukthankar and one of the biggest defaulters of South Indian Co-operative Bank Mr. Girijashankar Pandey (of Kamal Towing fame). Anyone to bell the cat to expedite the cases? When even RBI keeps quiet, what else can the common man do!!
Identity Politics By: Marathi Manoos | 21-May-2009 Reply | Forward --SiddharthIndian States were carved out on Linguistic grounds by Indian politicians. Identity Politics i.e based on Caste, Ethnicity etc etc has been played out only since the Late 1970's So why are you dragging the British into it? they have Left the country 65 years back. which should be enough time to put our house in order... unfortunately that has not happened :-(
Now Mumbaikars and Marathis show to the world that when it comes to nation, they are Indian first!By: Siddharth | 20-May-2009 Reply | Forward The recent showdown of the Sena-BJP alliance in the elections only points to one thing. We are all Marathis, Gujratis, Bengalis, Tamil , Telegu... everything, but first, we are Indians. Better late than never: we have learnt from our mistakes, and have grown mature. For instance, even after so poor governance of the Congress in the state, even after their poor security measures, we voted for them, because we are pissed off with hate politics. Biharis, Marathis and North Indians, are Indians first. The Brits taught our politicians 'divide and rule'. But I'm happy that we showed the policy down n down and down. This is a message to all the politicians - we stand united, No to 'divide and rule', Yes to 'real work'. Its time we evaluate you politicians based on the work you have done rather than the number of hate speeches you have given, and riots you have instrumented! India had decided. Jai Hind.
