  • The BJP’s Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan echoed Raj Thackeray this week, telling a crowd in Satna that he would not allow “Biharis” to usurp jobs in the area.

“Karkhana lagega Satna mein aur naukri karne aayenge Bihar se, ye hum honey nahin denge,” (Factories will be set up in Satna, but people from Bihar will get jobs in them, I won’t allow this) Chouhan told a ‘Garib Utthan’ (Uplift of the Poor) rally on Thursday.

The chief minister said he had asked factories to employ local people. “They will have to train local youths and employ them,” he said.

The statement provoked sharp responses from Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD president Lalu Prasad, following which Chouhan backtracked.

“All I meant was that local people should be given priority over outsiders,” he clarified in Indore on Friday, adding that he had not meant any offence to Biharis.

In a letter to Chouhan, Nitish said: “Your statement regarding not employing Biharis in Madhya Pradesh is very objectionable. The people of the country enjoy a fundamental right to find a job in any part of the country on the basis of their talents and abilities.

“I request you to keep opening up job opportunities to people of all states and cooperate with them and ensure their safety,” Nitish wrote.

He refrained, however, from criticizing Chouhan in public. The BJP is a part of Nitish’s government in Bihar. No BJP leader in Bihar was willing to comment on Chouhan’s statement.

IndiaBy: Bhanu | 10-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Well let you know that, national average income for each Indian is $1100. The bihar is $ 150 so its difference and its huge. Who is responsible for this probably politicians of bihar and UP. I don't blame people of bihar and UP. Its high time people of these states reject lalu, paswan, mayawati and mulayam. Nitish is doing good work and I hope these states will improve in future.
Let there be love and lightBy: Sunit Love | 09-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Thank you to all the politicians for humiliating the state. I heard someone got scared so what makes you scared. If you really love your country i challenge you to join army. Remember it may echo back and then don't blame each of yourself. Stop doing dog fight. Decrease population. Stop reservations on any basis let there be a share for intelligence rather than quotas. Don't decrease opportunity cost of other people GOD SAVE ME FROM MY REELECTION I NEED PERFECTION. Think Big. Spread love. God may force you to take good action.
Shame on BJPBy: rajiv | 08-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward This is copleteley uncontituitional remark by a CM. BJP should immediately remove this CM.Us, the people of India should teach a lesson to people like Chauhan /Thackrey etc., and the party supporting them.
BiharBy: Sanjay | 07-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward The rich Indian states are no better than some of the poorest African and central American countries when compared by GDP. The pooer Indian states like Bihar have an even worse human index record. Non Biharis shouldnt get too pumped up on their supposed development, when they are amongest the dirt poor of the world. As for law and order in India, the less said the better. Biharis are murdered, Muslims and dalits are murdered. Caste kills caste and the country also has a naxal civil war. Madhya Pradesh is known to have some of the poorest districts and regions in India. Only Bhopal and the west near Gujarat has some sort of decent standard of living. The CM of MP would do better in helping those poor souls than picking on other desperate poor souls of Bihar and UP. Nothing happens in India if Biharis and UP'its are not involved. the rest of the countrys is either lazy or violent. Which is the lie that is labelled against Biharis and UP'its
The problems with BIHAR By: Arun | 07-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward The problem with Bihar and UP is people like Laoo, Pswan, Mulayam and Mayawati. The reason why people do not like Biharis is because they have stopped making people like Rajendra Babu and Jayprakash. There is no hatred for Bihar even in Maharashtra. Otherwise tell me how is it that a Rahul Saxena is so loved by SA Re Ga Ma Pa Marathi audience. We all want Biharis to come and prosper anywhere and everywhere in India but not the variety of Mulayam, Laloo, Abu Azmi, Paswan and Mayawati. Also if these Biharis are so fond of living their own state then let them also leave their state identity at home.
