Shoes hurled at Gujarat HC judges

Two persons were arrested here for allegedly throwing shoes at judges in separate incidents.

Two persons were arrested here for allegedly throwing shoes at judges of Gujarat High Court in separate incidents on Wednesday. Both the accused were taken to the Sola police station.

The first case happened in the court of Justice M D Shah. Litigant Ramaji Thakor of Kalol taluka in Gandhinagar was reportedly miffed after the court turned down his bail plea, and claimed his application was rejected without a proper hearing. The police said that Justice Shah told the police that he forgave Thakor.

Police said Thakor was involved in an assault case in a bank. He had made a petition to quash that case and requested for bail. When Shah reportedly did not hear the plea,Thakor hurled a shoe at him. The shoe did not hit Shah, and fell close to his chair. The State Reserve Police Force personnel immediately took him out of the court room and alerted the police.

The second incident happened in the court of Justice K S Jhaveri. A middle-aged man hurled shoes at Jhaveri in his chamber. The police identified him as Bhavani Bavaji, who was reportedly angry with Jhaveri since the judge had rejected his plea.

Bavaji was reportedly running a tea stall without permission. The municipal corporation had seized his stall and lodged a case against him. The lower court granted him bail, but he did not get back his stall.

He filed a petition in the HC against the municipal corporation seeking his stall back. The police said that Jhaveri had rejected his petition a few months ago. Bavaji came to the HC on Wednesday, barged into Jhaveris chamber, and hurled shoes at him. He was arrested.
