The CBI formally took over the Shopian rape and murder case on Thursday. A 12-member CBI team, arrived in Srinagar in the afternoon and held discussions with the members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of J-K police which was constituted by the J-K government soon after the rape and murder of Nilofar and Asiya Jan in Shopian on May 29. The SIT will be handing over all the case dairies and investigation reports made in the case so far to the CBI.
Sources said the CBI team, headed by DIG Satish Golcha and consisting three Superintendents of Police and two Deputy Superintendents of Police, would be staying at the J-K police officers’ guesthouse in Humhama.
The CBI team is likely to set up a camp office at Shopian to carry out the investigations with ease.
