Shot fired at Kothrud restaurant, no casualty

An unidentified person on a motorcycle reportedly fired a shot towards Prithvi Restaurant near Dahanukar Colony in Kothrud around 3 pm on Sunday. Nobody was injured, though the restaurant was packed with people when the incident took place, police said.
The motive behind the attack was not clear till late night, police said, adding that the footage of a CCTV camera from a neighbouring hospital had been obtained which showed there were two persons on a bike and one of them fired towards the hotel.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Shinde who visited the spot, said, "Two persons came on a bike around 3 pm. They entered the small alley adjacent to the restaurant and came out. The pillion rider got down and fired a bullet at a window of the restaurant which opens where the cash counter is located. No one was injured in the incident. The bullet entered the false ceiling. We have found a piece of it." The two then fled the spot.
Police said when the incident took place, an inspector with Maharashtra police was having lunch in the restaurant. After hearing the gunshot, he came out and inquired about the person who fired the bullet.
Manager Santosh Shetty who was at the cash counter at the time of the firing said, "I heard a sound of glass breaking. Then I saw that there was a hole in the window glass. I could them fleeing." The restaurant is owned by one Karunakar Shetty.
Assistant Commissioner of Police K C Lawange said, "We have obtained the footage from a CCTV camera installed at the neighbouring building. One of the persons was wearing a helmet. The footage, however, is grainy."
When asked whether any extortion call was received by the owners, Lawange said, "We are looking into it."
