A 31-year-old man shouting slogans in support of Anna Hazare set himself on fire near Kisan Ghat in central Delhi this afternoon,police said. He was admitted to LNJP Hospital with 90 per cent burns. Doctors at the hospital said he might not live. The man was carrying a National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) card in the name of Dinesh Singh Yadav of Sarkuddin village in Patna. He arrived at New Delhi railway station on Tuesday afternoon and went straight to Kisan Ghat,police said. Police personnel in a PCR van nearby heard Yadav shouting Anna Zindabad,Inquilab Zindabad and Vande mataram just before he doused himself with petrol and lit a fire. Yadav was admitted to the hospital at 4.40 pm by the police. We dont know his antecedents. He has 90 per cent burns and it seems like his chances of survival are bleak, the medical superintendent of LNJP said. The PCR personnel called Daryaganj police station,which began investigations. Yadavs family has been informed,police said. He was identified with the help of an NREGA card we found on his person, Deepak Mishra,special commissioner of police (operations),said. The PCR van was posted barely 50 metres away from the spot where he took the extreme step. The policemen heard him shouting slogans like Anna Zindabad but before they could reach him he had already set himself on fire. We recovered a bottle of petrol near him. He was there alone, Mishra said.
