Showcasing Shahpur Jat

Shahpur Jat, an urban village located near Hauz Khas, has been home to more than a 100 different establishments — ranging from village shops, high-end designer stores, art galleries, artist workshops and coffee shops. But if you are one of those who is unfamiliar with this cultural hub and what it has to offer, the Shahpur Jat Open House this Sunday will come to your rescue.

To start with, there will be free rickshaw rides through the area and a specially designed map, marked with locations of various places to check out. As many as 22 stores including galleries, hangout points and workshops are participating in the event and will offer complimentary food and drinks, besides special shopping discounts, on Sunday. And there is no need to worry about getting lost. A team of "way-finders", donning golden hats, will be seen at various checkpoints to guide you through.

One of its organisers, Shruti Narayan, who is the owner and creative designer at Lila, says, "Shahpur Jat has been a centre for fashion and shopping. In the last one year, many artists and people from other creative fields have moved in here. The idea behind this event was to make people aware of the current status of this area, its history and the creative field it has to offer." And the icing on the cake will be activities and performances at the stores to keep you entertained. These will range from tea parties and violin recitals to poetry readings and live music. So get ready to discover Shahpur Jat this weekend.
