Sibal dodges pot thrown by man who slapped Pawar

Minister of Communications and IT Kapil Sibal narrowly dodged a flowerpot in Adarsh Nagar on Saturday.

Minister of Communications and IT Kapil Sibal narrowly dodged a flowerpot in Adarsh Nagar on Saturday.

He was touring Chandni Chowk — his parliamentary constituency — when the incident took place.

Sibal’s supporters apprehended the assailant,Harvinder Singh,and handed him over to police.

An officer said Singh was part of the Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena.

According to sources close to Sibal,the minister was on a routine visit to meet people across his constituency,when the man walked up to him to shake his hand.

“He shook Mr Sibal’s hand,picked up a flowerpot and flung it towards the minister. Sibal stepped back and the pot narrowly missed him,” a source said.

According to police,the incident took place around 7 pm in Adarsh Nagar. Singh had slapped Union Minister Sharad Pawar last year,police said.

A senior police officer said,“The public apprehended Singh and handed him over to us.”

Speaking to The Sunday Express,Sibal said he was not injured in the incident.

“I do not know what the man was thinking. However,I requested the police to let him go,” Sibal said.

Police later released Harvinder Singh.
