'By a single board, a student can decide which university he wants to go.'

Government will review the functioning of existing deemed universities which have come under spotlight following allegations of heavy capitation fee charged by some of these institutions.

An autonomous overarching authority for higher education and research based on the recommendations of Yashpal committee and the National Knowledge Commission would be established.

Sibal said a law will be enacted to prevent, prohibit and punish educational malpractices. For the disadvantaged sections of the society, Equal Opportunity Offices would be created in all universities, he said adding a new policy on distance learning would be formulated.

The ambitious bill to provide free and compulsory education to children in the age group of 6 to 14 will be taken up during the budget session.

The government also wants to set up an All India Madrassa Board which will award degrees equivalent to CBSE and other boards. The board will frame policy to impart secular and technical education to Muslims without interfering with the religious teachings. "We will strive to evolve a consensus on this issue," he said.

Mr Sibal, are you dead sure?By: Surekha | 28-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward A more research in to this plan's viability needs to be done or it is going to have very very adverse repercussions on the students' mentality ("chalata hain" attitude will get more promoted here, too). Have you seen a pressurized cylinder? If not handled properly, it is bound ram back in to you with a devastating force. Get the photo? You are playing with India's future, so take each step with all caution, I pray.

Thanking Mr. Kapil Sibal, Hon'ble Minister HRD.By: Dr. Subir Sarkar | 27-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward This is a revolutionary bold step undertaken by a minister. Had it been taken by some one in 30 years back, I would have also cherished by childhood instead of remembering it as the most traumatic period of my life. Anyway, I feel happy thinking that atleast now onwards god gifted human life specially its child hood will be remembered happily by everyone.Learning should be always a happy and enjoyable experience. The moment it becomes an unpleasant painful job, it will fail to fulfill its objective and the whole exercise of education system will be futile.Young kids should not be considered as computer hard disk memory so that we keep on storing information in the name of imparting knowledge. Through education let us not make the effort to make some one learned but let us kindle the light of desire to know the unknown by themselves.Last but not least it is an humble request to the hon'ble minister Sri Kapil Sibalji, to think about the entry age of children of going to school.
