Ahlcon Public School in Mayur Vihar closed down for a week as a “precautionary measure” on Tuesday after two students tested positive for H1N1 influenza.
According to school authorities, the Nursery and Class III students (a girl and a boy, respectively), who are siblings, had returned from a vacation in Singapore recently.
“We came to know of the two cases late Monday night and decided to close the school — prevention is better than cure,” principal R K Sharma said.
The school’s sister concern, Ahlcon International School, Mayur Vihar, also decided to close till August 17 though no positive case has been reported from the institution.
Ahlcon Public is the fifth school in the city to shut down after students tested positive for H1N1 flu. Sanskriti School, Chanakyapuri; DPS, East of Kailash; Raghubir Singh Junior Modern School, Humayun Road; and the nursery school of St Mary’s, Dwarka, had closed down earlier.
Principal Sharma said the school decided to close for a week after consulting the resident medical officer.
“We have sent instructions to all parents and are taking necessary precautions,” Sharma said.
Last week, Sanskriti School was the first to shut down after a Class VI student was suspected of having contracted swine flu. Three more students from the school tested positive for H1N1 flu after the school was closed down for a week last Thursday.
DPS, East of Kailash, also closed down after a student was found positive. RG Junior Modern School, Humayun Road, shut down for a week on Monday after two Class III students tested positive for the influenza.
