Sidhu wins in a thriller

  • Delhi’s GS Sidhu had a fight on his hands and was taken the distance before prevailing in five hard fought games over K.Razi in the boys under-19 pre-quarterfinal match of the All-India squash tournament being played at the Kendriya Vidyalaya Squash courts, Sector 8, R K Puram on Monday.

    Sidhu began on a roll, winning the first game 11-6, before Razi began finding the corners to take the next two games 11-9 11-9. However, Razi lost the fourth game rather tamely at 6-11. In the decider, Sidhu’s superior overall game saw him prevail 14-12. He also remained in contention in the boys under-17 category, accounting for B. Purusarth 11-4, 9-11, 11-5, 11-4.

    The girls under-17 matches saw third seed Vishruti Sahni advance to the quarter-finals with an easy 11-2 11-3 11-3 victory over S. Mahveen.
