Sikh hardliner Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal was detained Tuesday by immigration staff at Guru Ramdas International Airport here as soon as he landed from UK in connection with a case in Haryana. In the wake of a look-out circular issued by the Sirsa police for Daduwal, the preacher was detained at the airport this morning by the immigration staff, officials said here. The Sikh preacher would be later handed over to the police for further investigation in the case, they said.
Vigilance books Powercom SDO
Jalandhar: Four persons, including a retired Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) and a Junior Engineer, of Powercom department have been booked by Vigilance Bureau in a fraud and corruption case. While JE Joginder Pal (posted at Bashirpura) and a farmer Amrik Singh have been arrested, two others are still at large. VB DSP Satpal Singh said they had received complaint from a farmer Mahinder Singh of Bhogpur village that an electricity motor connection of his farmland was given to one Amrik Singh and his father Gurdev Singh of his village by Powercom employees. After an inquiry it was found that the connection allotted to Mahinder was given to the other farmer by Powercom employees.
Five held with 20 kilos of Opium
Jalandhar: The Jalandhar rural police arrested five people and allegedly recovered 20 kg of opium from their possession. The seized contraband is said to be worth more than Rs 50 lakh. Police said that the opium was concealed in two vehicles, which have also been impounded. The five have been identified as Harbans Lal, Kulwinder Singh, Harjit Singh, Pinder Singh and Stephen.
Woman shot at by unidentified person
Hoshiarpur: A woman received a gunshot injury when an unidentified person opened fire at her late on Monday at Chaggran village in Hoshiarpur. Kanwaljit Kaur, wife of Delhi resident Gurpreet Singh, received bullet in her right shoulder and was admitted to a local hospital. Police have registered a case under the Arms Act and are investigating.
