Sikh history revisited

Director of the animated film "When Faith Mocks at Life" Sukhwinder Singh was in town on Sunday for the first Pune screening of the movie at Bal Gandharva Rangmandir. Set in 1745 Lahore, the story tells of the father-son pair of Subegh & Shahbaz Singh, two highly educated individuals who are falsely implicated by the Governor of Lahore, and are commanded to convert to Islam. Even in the face of death by torture, they refuse to renounce their faith. Singh is an MBA graduate and an IT professional who started Vismaad, his own animation production house, in Chandigarh in 2004. This is his fifth, and highest budget film so far at a production cost of 1.5 crores. The film took 27 months to finish and released in February, having since been screened in several cities across India as well as internationally. Singh makes no profit – sometimes losses – on his films; despite that, he continues his quest to educate the youth about Sikh history, which includes audiences in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland. " The newer generations are largely uninformed of the rich history of their Sikh ancestors. The morals and cultural knowledge history has to offer are lost in today's fast-paced and technologically dominated world. We have been steadily reintroducing these values through our animated films the world over, to Sikhs and others alike," Singh explains.
