  • In Mulud, water scarcity is the common problem that connects upper-middle class and slum-dwellers. With growing population and lack of adequate basic amenities in the area, Sardar Tara Singh, the three-time MLA from Mulund, has decided to make arrangements to dig bore wells in both housing complexes and slums to tackle the water woes.

“This problem is faced by majority of people in Mulund. I will do my best to get funds for digging bore wells in plush housing complexes and slums. It will solve the problem and reduce the pressure on the BMC,” he said.

Singh, an ex-corporator has won the polls from Mulund for the third time by a margin of 28,000 votes. “But I did not get the expected lead. The little known MNS candidate polled a fair amount of votes and stood second. There is an MNS wave,” he said.

He is also known for building toilets in the slum areas like Khindipada. “A day after the polls, I inaugurated three toilets in my constituency. It is important as there are many such areas in my constituency, which lack proper sanitation,” he says.

Singh plans to bring more infrastructure projects to Mulund and said he would approach the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) soon to urge it to construct a skywalk from Nahur station to Wockhardt station. “It will give relief to people residing in Sarvodaya Nagar (Mulund west),” he said.

Singh also plans to develop a Ganesh ghat (immersion point)and more green spaces in Mulund (East). “The work on Ganesh ghat has to be completed before the next Ganesh festival,” he said. He plans to create two gardens, one in Mulund west at a cost of Rs 12 crore and the second next to the Ganesh immersion point in Mulund.
