The pandal is passé or at least that is what the organisers of the Singhi Park puja would like us to believe.
For this year, besides the pandal, the organisers have worked extensively on wide display of lights outside the pandal in the form of 3D shows created with LED lights.
“We had switched to LED lights last year as they are cheaper and we save on power,” said Avijit Majumdar, joint secretary, Singhi Park Durga Utsav committee.
“The initial cost of establishing them may be higher but in the long-run. they turn out to be cost-effective. Moreover, it is also environment-friendly,” added Majumdar.
To set up the system, the organisers had roped in Sridhar Das, an expert from Chandannagar.
According to Majumdar, a pictorial depiction of the children’s nursery rhymes will be done through 3D. “Most children only read nursery rhymes but now they will be able to see them on screen and it will almost be like watching a film,” he said.
“We have chosen popular rhymes like Jack and the Beabstalk, which will help them co-relate,” he added.
Apart from the 3D effect, the organisers this time have also used LED lights in their pandal as a precautionary measure.
“Since ordinary bulbs get heated quickly it is dangerous to place them too low as people may get hurt. Not only do these look better, they do not produce any heat,” he said.
Not everything, however, is hunky-dory. With rains threatening to play spoilsport, the organisers are a worried lot since they are afraid that they will not be able to display the 3D show if it rains.
