Singhi Ram,a cabinet minister in the previous government and former loyalist of Union Minister for Steel Virbhadra Singh, launched a scathing attack on the state Congress on Friday.
Speaking to the media in Shimla,Singhi Ram accused the senior most party leader who has held the most important positions in the state of hatching a conspiracy to tarnish his image in the party and the public, which was why the Block Congress Committee of Rampur (his former constituency) initiated proceedings to expel him from the party.
Singhi Ram was the only cabinet minister in the Virbhadra Singh government who was denied party ticket in the 2007 Assembly elections.
He did not name any particular leader, but replying to a question on who did he mean by the senior most leader and whether it was Virbhadra Singh,he said: May be it is Virbhadra, but this will be found out by the investigating authorities when I approach the prime minister and the President of India, the Central Bureau of Investigation, the National Human Rights Commission or Scheduled Cast Commission for relief against the atrocities committed against me,because I am a Dalit.
Replying to another question,he added: I do not know why Virbhadra Singh is angry with me,despite the fact that I stood like a rock with him through thick and thin for over 25 years.
A month ago,the Rampur BCC passed a resolution against Singhi Ram to expel him from the party and sent it to the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC).
The BCC has charged Ram with indulging in anti-party activity in Rampur constituency during the 2007 Vidhan Sabha and 2008 Lok Sabha elections.
He,however, denied ever visiting the constituency or any other interference during both the elections.
I had been constantly receiving threats to my life, due to which my family and I were under depression. We had no voice as we are Dalits,so we decided to stay away. I had also written to the then director general of police Ashwani Kumar, seeking personal protection, but in vain. I am a Congress loyalist, but since the party is acting against me on the basis of a conspiracy by the high and mighty,I want to speak out, said Ram.
Talking about the vigilance case pertaining to the alleged fake marksheet case against his daughter,Singhi Ram said: When my rivals did not find anything against me in my 30 years of clean political career, they implicated my daughter, putting her future at stake.
Reacting to his outburst,HPCC president Kaul Singh Thakur said: I have forwarded the block Congress committees resolution, seeking Singhi Rams expulsion,to the party disciplinary committee. I am going to send all complaints against him to the party high command for a decision,as Virbhadra Singh had personally complained against Ram for working against him during the Lok Sabha elections.
