Sirsa quiet, security on high alert for Gurpurab

Dera followers to celebrate birth anniversary of Shah Mastana on the same day when Sikhs celebrate Gurpurab

The district administration of Sirsa on Tuesday relaxed curfew by 15 hours during daytime, however, night curfew hours will remain in force till further orders. The relaxation in day-time curfew was made from 6 am till 9 pm today, but considering religious functions of Sikhs on Tuesday and tomorrow, the security forces deployed in and around Sirsa have not been withdrawn and shall remain deployed till further orders.

While talking to The Indian Express, Deputy Commissioner (Sirsa) J Ganeshan said: "The situation in Sirsa is peaceful now. There is no disturbance in law and order and people are abiding by the rules. No incident of any kind of disruption of peace took place in Sirsa throughout the day. The Nagar Kirtan procession was peacefully carried out by the Sikhs. The police deployment was made on the entire route, from where the procession passed. Apart from the police personnel, five companies of CRPF were also deputed. Security remains tight in Sirsa and the life has gotten back to normal here. The educational institutions shall remain closed tomorrow also."

Dera followers will celebrate birth anniversary of Shah Mastana, who set up Dera Sacha Sauda in Sirsa on the same day when Sikhs celebrate Gurpurab. In wake of that, the Sirsa district police have been put on a high alert.
