The state government on Friday assured the Gujarat High Court that it will issue a notification in a couple of days for formation of a Special Investigation Team to probe the encounter case of Ishrat Jahan and three others. The state gave this assurance during the hearing of a contempt of court petition filed by Gopinath Pillai,father of Javed Sheikh who died in the encounter. Pillai had filed the petition against the government for not complying with HCs earlier order of September 23. The court had ordered formation of the SIT to probe the encounter case of June 15,2004,and directed the government to issue a notification to the effect within two weeks. During the hearing today,government pleader said the delay was caused as the government had approached the Supreme Court against the HC order.
