As a Diwali bonanza to Delhi commuters, half a dozen flyovers coming up all over the city are slated for inauguration or partially opening in October.
The three flyovers on the stretch between the IIT hostel and NH-8 will also be formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit next month.
The first flyover on the stretch was opened last month, although work is still going on here. Work on the Munirka flyover, however, is still in progress; PWD engineers said the flyover would be finished by mid-November at the earliest.
Good news is in store for East Delhi residents as well. The much-delayed ITO-Chungi underpass coming up below Vikas Marg — an eight-lane carriageway that would serve as an effective link between East Delhi and the rest of the Capital — is slated for opening after missing three deadlines.
The foundation stone for the flyover was laid by Dikshit in 2007.
Recent rains had further delayed the work. PWD officials, however, believe that the project would be complete by October.
In East Delhi, the RR Kohli Marg grade separator will be partially opened to traffic next week onwards. “The grade separator is ready. All that’s left is finishing touches, like putting crash barriers, which is why we will open it partially,” a PWD engineer said.
Allowing traffic on the grade separator will also ensure that the recently-opened Geeta Colony Bridge becomes fully functional, as traffic from the Ring Road used to get stuck earlier close to the flyover construction site. Close to this, the Shastri Nagar Pushta Road grade separator will also be opened in October.
