Some companies plan to skip the purchase of Microsoft Corp's Windows 7 operating system over concern about compatibility with existing applications.

The survey quoted Sean Angus, a senior personal computer technician at Middlesex Hospital, as saying he would wait until the first "service pack" was released for Windows 7.

"The IT department must complete thorough testing to ensure that the applications we rely on each day, specifically radiology information systems and financial applications, will be compatible, before deploying any new platforms or software to our 1,500 desktops," he added.

Why change to Windows 7 when better Operating Systems are freely available.By: Rajeev Vasandani | 13-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward It's better to change over to free OS (Linux). These systems are more stable, have no cost, more secure, less prone to computer virus etc. Many blends of Linux are avaialble freely on Internet such as Ubuntu, OpenSuse, OpenSolaris, Mandriva etc. These also provide compatible Office Suite -Open Office. Open DBMS is also incorporated with these systems. Why pay - when things are easily available. Microsoft has fooled the world for long - now we should realise this. Also, in the time of recession - we must save rather than give it to Microsoft. I have been using Open Systems for quite some time- I am very very happy with them.
